MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) - Belarus and Indonesia have increased mutual commodity supplies by strengthening cooperation in agriculture and the food industry, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said following his meeting with Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs Sugiono, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We held a very substantive and constructive discussion, with negotiations taking place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I would like to note that we covered even more issues of mutual interest than initially planned,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said. “Our talks confirmed the shared commitment of Belarus and Indonesia to further strengthening political dialogue, deepening economic cooperation, and expanding humanitarian ties and people-to-people contacts.”

He added: “We welcomed the positive trend in bilateral trade and stressed the importance of diversifying and increasing mutual exports through enhanced collaboration in agriculture and the food industry.”

The negotiations also focused on food security issues, the minister emphasized.

“Belarus has confirmed its readiness to supply Indonesia with all necessary food products, including high-quality industrial and agricultural machinery, as well as to share its expertise in agricultural modernization with partners,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.

“The conclusion of a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union, where Belarus is currently presiding, and Indonesia is of particular importance for expanding trade and economic cooperation,” he said. “Belarus fully supports the process of establishing a free trade zone. We hope the agreement will be signed during Belarus' presidency in the union.”

Maksim Ryzhenkov stated: “The agreement will create new opportunities for business communities of the participating countries. I am certain it will encourage our governments and business sectors to explore ways to maximize the benefits arising from the new trade framework.”
