Belarus’ Belaya Rus, Cuba’s Communist Party sign cooperation roadmap

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian political party Belaya Rus and Cuba’s Communist Party have signed a roadmap on avenues of inter-party cooperation. The signing ceremony took place in the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana as a delegation of the Belarusian political party Belaya Rus visited the Republic of Cuba, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Olga Chemodanova, Chairwoman of the Belarusian political party Belaya Rus, and Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Politburo and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
The roadmap stipulates a specific program of action in the fields of politics, economics, youth affairs, and international relations. The document is geared towards the practical implementation of the agreement on mutual exchange and cooperation, which was signed in Minsk on 26 June 2025 during an inter-party meeting timed to an official visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to Belarus.

The signing of the roadmap continues advancing friendly Belarusian-Cuban relations and represents a political outcome of the visit of the party delegation led by Chairwoman Olga Chemodanova to the Republic of Cuba.

The parties undertook to coordinate their actions in the international arena in order to strengthen the sovereignty of Belarus and Cuba. According to the document, the parties also agreed on mutual visits, on sharing political information and information about significant international events scheduled to take place in Cuba and Belarus, and on mutual study of party-building experience.

According to representatives of the Belaya Rus party, several provisions of the roadmap are devoted to cooperation with government agencies and commercial entities with a view to expanding trade and economic ties between Belarus and Cuba.

In the area of youth policy regular online meetings and exchanges of delegations between the Iskra youth movement and the Union of Young Communists of Cuba are planned.

The roadmap is designed to deepen cooperation between the two parties. It is a strategic planning document and reflects priorities of the Belarusian party Belaya Rus and the Communist Party of Cuba.

The official visit of the Belarusian delegation to the Republic of Cuba began on 13 October. Among the numerous meetings the key one was with First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
The president of the Republic of Cuba noted that holding such talks with the leadership of Belarus’ leading political party is evidence of excellent bilateral and inter-party relations. Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez stressed the importance of such talks in the context of strengthening cooperation between Minsk and Havana, noting that building ties with Belarus is a priority of Cuba’s foreign policy.

The Cuban leader recalled his recent visit to Minsk and his participation in a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and in the Eurasian Economic Forum in June 2025, especially his meeting with “his friend and brother” Aleksandr Lukashenko. “Despite visits by a number of state leaders the Belarusian president devoted considerable time to the Cuban delegation. We had very fruitful conversations, and in his speech at the summit he spoke kindly about our country,” the Cuban president said.

Olga Chemodanova emphasized the courage of the Cuban people, who for more than 60 years have been resisting external aggression and economic blockade, defending the ideals of social equality and justice, and fighting for the right to follow their own independent path. In her opinion, this high sense of national dignity, the desire for sovereignty and the establishment of a just world order unites Belarus and Cuba, which are allies on the international arena.

“Without a doubt, the partnership between our parties will contribute to the development of relations between our countries. No geographical distances or blockades will stand in the way of our friendship,” Olga Chemodanova was confident.

In conclusion of the meeting, at the suggestion of the Belarusian delegation the parties agreed to hold a series of events in Minsk dedicated to the ideological and political legacy of Fidel Castro and timed to the centenary of the legendary comandante’s birth.

While in Cuba the delegation also signed a cooperation agreement between the National Library of Belarus and the Jose Martí National Library of Cuba. The document provides for sharing best practices, carrying out joint cultural and educational projects, and developing digital resources and initiatives to promote Belarusian and Cuban cultures. The agreement opens up new opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in the field of culture and science.
