MINSK, 14 July (BelTA) – Relations between Russia and Belarus are truly kindred and brotherly, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 14 July, BelTA learned.

Alexander Beglov noted that he had recently read the first interview by Aleksandr Lukashenko as head of state in one of the newspapers, i.e. from more than 30 years ago.
“Since that time you have practically not changed your principles, the decisions that you made then and make today. They're stable and fundamental. This gained you respect among the Belarusian people, among Russians and people in the CIS countries. I fully share your words about the fact that relations between the Republic of Belarus and Russia and St. Petersburg are indeed kindred and brotherly. This is why we work so well together,” the governor said.

The trend in the development of relations between Belarus and St. Petersburg is set by the presidents of both countries, which is very important for the region.
The interaction between St. Petersburg and Belarus, between our enterprises follow the trends that you and Russian President Vladimir Putin set. We are clearly fulfilling the instructions given by our presidents. There is no need to get smart; you just need to fulfill the instructions. Then everything will be in order,” Alexander Beglov stressed. “It is very important when two presidents set the trend, it helps us a lot.”

The governor cited the recent opening of the new building of the Belarusian Consulate General in St. Petersburg. It was inaugurated in the center of the city ahead of the Independence Day of Belarus. “We have fully implemented the instructions that you and Vladimir Putin gave us. The consulate is up and running. It is 10 minutes away from Smolny. I always say to the consul general: ‘It’s just a few minutes’ walk. We can meet anytime over a cup of tea and solve all the necessary issues," he said.
