BAKU, 12 November (BelTA - Azertac) - As the COP29 presidency, Azerbaijan will do its best to broker a common ground between developed and developing countries, between the Global South and the Global North, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said as he opened the COP29 World Leaders Climate Summit in Baku.
Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan was selected as the COP29 host by a unanimous decision of almost 200 countries. According to him, this is the recognition of Azerbaijan's active role in the international arena.
"The megaprojects launched by Azerbaijan have already changed energy and transport routes in Eurasia. Thus, we have created a productive format of multilateral cooperation," he stressed.
The head of state also recalled that with the support of 120 countries, Azerbaijan was elected chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, the largest institution after the UN.
The 29th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), which is considered one of the largest and most prestigious events in the world, is running in Baku. COP29 world leaders climate action summit will be held on 12-13 November.
