TEHRAN, 23 December (BelTA - IRNA) - The Iranian chess team has been
ranked 4th after the squad members won two gold medals in the FIDE World
U9-U17 Rapid and Blitz Championships, held in Antalya, Turkey.
Ramtin Kakavand and Rosha Akbari performed brilliantly in the two-day blitz segment of the championships that attracted over 300 players from 31 countries, showcasing the rising global interest in youth chess.
Kakavand grabbed the gold medal in the under-13 age group, with 8 points from 9 matches, whereas, Akbari won the title in the under-15 age group for girls with 7.5 points from 9 games.
The Blitz champions in both open and girls categories were held across all five age groups of 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17
Finally, the Iranian team stood in fourth place in the ranking and medal tally, behind Uzbekistan and Turkiye, which came in second and third, respectively.
