MOSCOW, 2 February (BelTA) – The meeting of the Union State Council of Ministers, held in Moscow on 2 February, discussed the deepening of integration between Belarus and Russia and took stock of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.
The Belarusian delegation at the meeting was headed by Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin.
“Not only economic but also social aspects of the Union State development were touched upon. For example, the launch of cross-border suburban passenger services: direct train routes between Orsha and Smolensk, Vitebsk and Smolensk,” the press service noted.
Special attention was given to the creation of a Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality. Further measures were discussed to give products from Belarusian and Russian manufacturers the status of Union State goods. Criteria for approval, procedures for obtaining this status, and a methodology for assessing the level of cooperative input in Belarusian and Russian products were approved.
The meeting also addressed cooperation in tourism, a rapidly growing sector in both countries. A key task was defined as ensuring unhindered transport connections, accessibility of tourist infrastructure, and services for citizens of the Union State. A project was approved to establish a unified tourist information center in Smolensk.
In total, 14 documents were signed during the meeting.
