Turchin, Turkcell Group discuss promotion of BeST telecom operator in Belarus

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – Belarus' First Deputy Premier Aleksandr Turchin met with top executives of Turkey's major telecom operator Turkcell Group to discuss the work of the BeST telecom operator (Life trademark) in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

As is known, 80% of this telecom operator's shares belong to the Turkish company. Turkcell Group named the conditions that it believes should be in place to enable the telecom operator to compete successfully on the market.

Aleksandr Turchin noted that Belarus will consider all the proposals put forward by the Turkish side, however a level playing field will remain the guiding principle of all decisions taken by the government.

GSM-based mobile communication in Turkey began when Turkcell commenced operations in 1994. At present it is the biggest GSM operator in Turkey with about 38 million subscribers. It is also one of the biggest players on the European and global markets of digital economy (telecommunications, data transfer, software development, etc.). Turkcell Group reported total assets of TRY45.4 billion (about $9 billion) in late 2018.
