Teachers' salaries in Belarus up 23% in January-August 2025

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Teachers' salaries in Belarus grew by 23% in January-August 2025, BelTA learned from the National Statistical Committee.

The nominal accrued average monthly salary for a teacher in the period from January to August 2025 amounted to Br2,495.6, which is 23% higher than in the same period in 2024.

The Belarusian Statistical Committee has compiled a statistical portrait of the Belarusian teacher at the start of the 2024/25 academic year. Accordingly, 87.6% of teachers are women, with an average age of 43.4 years. Some 93.1% of teachers have a higher education, 79.7% hold the highest or first qualification category, and 69.5% have more than 15 years of work experience.

In total, there are 2,848 general secondary education institutions operating in the country at the start of the school year. They have a total enrolment of 1,080,400 students and employ 102,300 teachers. On average, there are 11 students per teacher nationwide (12 students per teacher in cities and urban settlements, and six students per teacher in rural areas).

Regarding subject teachers, Russian language and literature are predominantly taught by women (98.1%), as are Belarusian language and literature (97.8%), foreign languages (95.7%), biology (92.9%), and chemistry (91.6%).

The highest proportions of male subject teachers are in physical education (56.1%), pre-conscription and medical training (54%), vocational training (38%), physics (33.7%), and history and other social sciences (28.1%).

Young specialists account for 5.9% of all teachers.
