MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – We can team up to design and produce new models of equipment to replace the imported analogues, Governor of Russia’s Kemerovo Oblast (Kuzbass) Ilya Seredyuk told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 23 June, BelTA has learned.
“Kuzbass and Belarus have long-established and strong economic ties. We would like to take these relations further, because our cooperation stood the test of time. We have never let each other down,” the head of the region said.
As a basis for further growth of economic cooperation, he highlighted joint projects to manufacture new types of equipment. “It is not only the existing product line-up. It is about the development of new models that can replace equipment that is not produced in Russia or Belarus today (for example, piste machines).” Design bureaus, R&D organizations... We, both Belarus and Kuzbass, have enough potential and competences to make things work in this avenue,” Ilya Seredyuk said.
As an example of such new products, he cited snow groomers which are specialized, tracked vehicles used to prepare ski slopes and ski trails. Kuzbass actively develops ski tourism, and such machines are in demand. The region imports them now. Although not too sophisticated from a technological point of view, it is a special kind of tractor. “Our two countries have enough competence to master the equipment that we import from other countries today,” Ilya Seredyuk said.

“Over the past six years, we have bought more than 1,400 mining equipment from Belarus. Over the past six years our trade exceeded $2.5 billion. During a meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko we discussed the need to expand our relations,” he said.
One of the major joint projects currently underway is the construction of a multi-brand center for maintenance of Belarusian machines in Kuzbass. Plans are in place to set up a large warehouse of spare parts and also mobile teams, that, if necessary, will be able to travel and service equipment on the ground with minimal disruption of the technological process.
