Russia's Ivanovo Oblast interested in Belarusian flax supplies

MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Ivanovo Oblast of Russia would like to purchase Belarusian flax for its linen mills. The matter was discussed at the session of the joint working group held at the Bellegprom light industry concern on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

Bellegprom chief Tatyana Lugina told reporters that Ivanovo Oblast seeks to promote its linen industry, therefore it needs raw materials for its linen mills. This matter will be discussed in greater detail later. After Bellegprom meets the domestic demand for flax in 2020, the concern will consider shipping flax to its Russian partners.

“The Association of Entrepreneurs in Textile and Garment Industry of Ivanovo Oblast suggested deeper integration in the light industry and cooperation in product marking,” Tatyana Lugina said. She added that Belarusian and Russian manufacturers face similar problems, therefore the parties agreed to coordinate efforts in protecting the market of the Eurasian Economic Union from counterfeit products and mala fide competition.

The parties also discussed innovations in the industry, and efforts to ramp up production, step up cooperation and implement joint sci-tech projects.

The press service of the concern informed that the participants of the meeting agreed to draft an agreement on information exchange about investment projects with foreign investment. The Belarusian side expressed readiness to build a road network, housing and social infrastructure in Ivanovo Oblast, increase supplies of Amkodor special-purpose machinery for the housing and utilities, forestry and land reclamation sectors. Belkommunmash would like to supply trolleybuses with an extended autonomous run and electric buses; Mogilevliftmash can fully meet Ivanovo Oblast's needs in elevator equipment.

Director of the Economic Development and Trade Department of Ivanovo Oblast Lyudmila Badak said that the region is actively promoting the agricultural sector, therefore it is interested in agricultural machinery made in Belarus. An arrangement was reached to hold a presentation of Belarusian utilities vehicles, public transport vehicles and agricultural machinery at exhibition premises of Ivanovo Oblast.

Russian partners praised the efficient work of the trading house of Orsha Linen Mill in Ivanovo Oblast. By the way, the linen mill was invited to join the Association of Entrepreneurs in Textile and Garment Industry of Ivanovo Oblast, which would enable their greater presence on the Russian market.

The Ivanovo Oblast delegation was in Belarus on an official visit on 18-19 December. The delegation toured BelGee, MAZ and Slutsk Linen Mill. They also took part in a business forum to discuss trade and economic cooperation and in the presentation of investment and export potential of Ivanovo Oblast.

The delegation included representatives of the local government, education and business community of Ivanovo Oblast.
