Progress in Belarus’ geographic export diversification outlined

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) - Belarus is consolidating its presence in traditional markets while actively branching out into new ones, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said during a meeting between the Belarusian president and heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices in Minsk on 31 July, BelTA learned.

The minister emphasized that Russia accounts for over 65% of Belarusian exports, stressing the need to intensify diversification of trade routes, including to distant markets. He also highlighted growing competition from other nations, particularly China and Türkiye.

Addressing this, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “We don’t need China-scale volumes. Just modest shares in each country; that’s the idea.” The head of state believes in targeted country-by-country engagement. “No blanket approaches. When you analyze specifics, there’s always room to grow,” the president remarked.

Maksim Ryzhenkov outlined diplomats’ ongoing efforts to promote Belarusian goods, particularly engineering goods, in distant markets, citing Nigeria as a current success case.

According to him, Belarus has nearly achieved the export target for China set by the president. “We're currently seeing favorable price conditions in the Chinese market, though we note declining physical volumes for several key export commodities,” he stated. “However, given the scale of deliveries of goods and services supplied to China, we’ve developed industry-specific sales strategies for this market and raised performance targets for some ministries. The result? A 29% export increase over five months. We anticipate even exceeding our annual target if this trend continues.”
