Over 8.7m tonnes of grain threshed in Belarus

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Over 8.7 million tonnes of grain has been threshed in Belarus so far, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA. 

“Based on the current data, as of 1 September, some 8,735,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus,” the press service informed. 

The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast harvested 2.214 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.728 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.672 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.199 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.036 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 888,000 tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 95% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops (maize not taken into account), which makes up 2,294,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 8.5 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level. 

Some 625,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 89% of the target. 
Winter grain sowing covers 11,000 hectares, representing 1% of the target.

Flax has been pulled from 46,000 hectares, accounting for 96% of the planned area.  

Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 3% of the area, which amounts to 25,000 hectares.

Some 415,000 tonnes of hay (58% of the plan) and 12.737 million tonnes of haylage (91% of the plan) have been prepared so far, including 422,000 tonnes stored in polymer packaging. 

Forage production has reached 4.025 million tonnes (40% of the target).

Over 54,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested, with the average yield above last year’s by 57.3 centners per hectare.
