Neman tobacco exports up 2.4 times in 2011


GRODNO, 10 January (BelTA) – Grodno-based tobacco factory Neman increased the export of its products 2.4 times in 2011 compared with a year earlier, BelTA learnt from Assistant Director General of the company Dmitry Chugai.

Last year the factory exported 252 million cigarettes, 243% to 2010. In monetary values the export totaled $2.4 million, or 227% to the previous year. The major customers were Lithuania and Abkhazia.

On the whole in 2011 the company’s output made up 23.4 billion cigarettes, or 133.7% from a year earlier. A total of 5.4 billion cigarettes (up 7.8%) were produced for international tobacco companies. The factory shipped 23.1 billion cigarettes, or 129.3% to a year ago. The company increased the sales of its own brands by 37.8% to 17.9 billion cigarettes.

Quota on tobacco products for Neman factory has been increased to 24 billion pieces in 2012.

Founded in 1861, Grodno Tobacco Factory Neman was transformed into a joint stock company in 2008. The company employs around 1,100 professionals.
