Nearly 9.5m tonnes of grain with rapeseed and corn harvested in Belarus

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Nearly 9.5 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 10 October, some 9,463,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus,” the press service informed.

The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.341 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.841 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.842 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.290 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.127 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.022 million tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 89% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,056,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 5.1 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

Some 682,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 98% of the target.

Sowing of winter cereal grains has been completed on 1.398 million hectares, which is 93% of the planned area. The regional progress is as follows: Brest Oblast has exceeded its target by 2%, Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast met 100% of the target, Mogilev Oblast sowed winter cereal grains on 89% of the planned area, Gomel Oblast on 83%, and Vitebsk Oblast on 80%.

The harvest of flax straw totals 166,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 1.21 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.

Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 64% of the area, which is 654,000 hectares.

Some 560,000 tonnes of hay (78% of the plan) and 13.688 million tonnes of haylage (98% of the plan) have been prepared so far. Forage production has reached 7.989 million tonnes (80% of the target).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 50% of the area, which amounts to 54,000 hectares. The harvest has yielded 2,646,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 36.1 centners per hectare higher than last year.


Some 584,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested, with the average yield being 10.8 centners per hectare above last year. 

Nationwide, 113,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 65% of it cropped now.

Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 35,000 hectares, representing 2.4% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
