MP: BelNPP enables electric heating expansion in Belarus

OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 14 August (BelTA) - The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has opened new possibilities for the development of electric heating in Belarus, Anton Karanchevich, a member of the Standing Commission on Industry, Energy, Transport, Communications, and Digital Development of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, told the media on 14 August, BelTA has learned.

“Today, we visited the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and saw firsthand that safety is the top priority here. The plant is equipped with cutting-edge technology, featuring both active and passive safety systems. It is also protected against external impacts. It can even withstand the crash of a light aircraft. The passive safety system ensures the plant’s security without requiring intervention from operational staff,” Anton Karanchevich said.

He highlighted the significant economic benefits brought by BelNPP. “What is particularly important for households, especially in rural areas, is the opportunity to switch to electric heating under special tariffs. Without the construction of the nuclear power plant, these tariffs, these opportunities, and the resulting benefits and conveniences for the public would not exist,” the MP added.

“We also visited the plant’s training center, where personnel undergo rigorous preparation. The training is organized at the highest level. BelNPP employs highly qualified specialists, including many young professionals who excel in their field. To assume key positions, they must complete multiple stages of training and gain experience in less critical roles. This ensures that only the most experienced personnel, with in-depth knowledge of the equipment, take on important responsibilities. The plant’s training facilities play a crucial role in their preparation,” Anton Karankevich emphasized.
