OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 14 August (BelTA) - The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has opened new possibilities for the development of electric heating in Belarus, Anton Karanchevich, a member of the Standing Commission on Industry, Energy, Transport, Communications, and Digital Development of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, told the media on 14 August, BelTA has learned.
“Today, we visited the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and saw firsthand that safety is the top priority here. The plant is equipped with cutting-edge technology, featuring both active and passive safety systems. It is also protected against external impacts. It can even withstand the crash of a light aircraft. The passive safety system ensures the plant’s security without requiring intervention from operational staff,” Anton Karanchevich said.
He highlighted the significant economic benefits brought by BelNPP. “What is particularly important for households, especially in rural areas, is the opportunity to switch to electric heating under special tariffs. Without the construction of the nuclear power plant, these tariffs, these opportunities, and the resulting benefits and conveniences for the public would not exist,” the MP added.
