Moscow hosts Belarusian-Latin American forum

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - The Belarusian-Latin American forum was held at the Business and Cultural Complex of the Belarusian Embassy in the Russian Federation on 9 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was organized by the Belarusian National Center for Marketing and Price Study and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was attended by diplomats of 11 embassies of Latin American countries in the Russian Federation, 10 of which were represented at the level of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The forum was attended by the heads of trade missions of the countries of the region and heads of trade and economic services of the embassies of Latin American countries, representatives of business circles of a number of Latin American countries.

The program of the event included two main blocks: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and metallurgy, as well as chemistry and petrochemistry. Representatives of the Belarusian Industry Ministry, Belneftekhim, as well as Gomselmash, MAZ, BelAZ, Minsk Electrotechnical Plant named after V.I. Kozlov, Mogilevliftmash, BMZ, Grodno-Azot, Belshina, and Gomel Chemical Plant made presentations.

In his speech, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said that in addition to the political component, Belarus in its interaction with Latin American states emphasizes trade and economic cooperation, as the economies of our countries traditionally complement each other. The deputy foreign minister emphasized that during such events it is necessary not only to talk about the opportunities of our country, but also to recommend business entities to work in the huge promising market of Latin America.

In turn, Belarus’ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik said that Latin American countries pursue an independent policy in the international arena, which is based on their national interests, and emphasized that Belarus fully shares this approach.

During his stay in Moscow, Evgeny Shestakov held bilateral meetings with the ambassadors of individual Latin American states.

In his conversation with the ambassador of Argentina to Russia, Evgeny Shestakov expressed hope that the Belarusian-Argentinean dialogue would gain significant momentum. The Argentine ambassador, in turn, expressed interest in Belarusian agricultural machinery products.

At the meeting with the ambassador of Bolivia to Russia, the Belarusian deputy foreign minister suggested holding ministerial consultations, as well as a regular meeting of the commission for trade and economic cooperation.

On the same day, Evgeny Shestakov and Ambassador of Colombia to Russia with concurrent accreditation to Belarus Hector Isidro Arenas Neira signed the Belarusian-Colombian intergovernmental agreement on the mutual abolition of visas for short-term stays.
