MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Belarus has one of the lowest poverty rates, with the level dropping from 4.8% in 2020 to 3.5% in 2024. Unemployment also reached a record low of 2.6% in January-September 2025. Belarus’ Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar outlined these figures in an interview with the Economy of Belarus Magazine.
“Undoubtedly, the most significant achievement is the improvement in the quality of life of our citizens. Belarus ranks 65th out of 193 states in the global Human Development Index. We also maintain a strong position in terms of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, ranking 32nd among 167 nations, and in the Social Progress Index ranking (we are 66th out of 170 countries, according to the 2025 report),” the minister emphasized.
The previous five-year plan's national priority was family support. The system of state benefits related to childbirth and childcare continues to function steadily. A special focus is on the family capital program for families raising three or more children, which has been extended until 2029. Housing construction with state support for families raising three or more children is also increasing: in 2024 alone, more than 6,300 large families received the keys to their own apartments.
