MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) - Indonesia is interested in expanding economic cooperation with Belarus, Chairman of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia Mardani Ali Sera told the media on 10 May, BelTA has learned.

On 10 May, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs of the House of Representatives, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Parliament of Indonesia Irina Kostevich, Member of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Aleksandr Lukyanov met with the Indonesian parliamentary delegation. The parties discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation.

“Belarus is aimed at peace, regional interaction. As a representative of the parliamentary delegation, I was glad to attend the parade on 9 May,” Mardani Ali Sera said. “First, I would like to build interaction between the people of the two countries. Indonesia has a large population of 280 million people and we need to build people-to-people ties. I would also like to note that Indonesia and Belarus have some common moments in history. In particular, Indonesia fought against colonization. The Republic of Belarus fought against fascism, and this is what unites us.”

According to him, the two countries have great prospects in economic cooperation. “I would like to establish trade between the two countries. The good news is that Indonesia has also joined BRICS, as well as Belarus. I hope this will help us strengthen our trade cooperation,” Mardani Ali Sera emphasized.
