MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov met with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone to discuss the development of trade and economic cooperation, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The Belarusian delegation included representatives from banks, industrial enterprises, ministries, and government agencies.
Maksim Ryzhenkov informed Sonexay Siphandone about the upcoming Belarus-Laos business forum, where specific agreements are expected to be reached between businesses from both countries. The Belarusian minister emphasized that joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation serves as the main instrument to advance bilateral relations in this area.
“Laos pledged to take the necessary steps to promptly form its delegation for the joint intergovernmental commission. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed interest in cooperation with Belarus in energy, petrochemicals, mineral extraction, and agriculture. He also briefed the Belarusian delegation on the ongoing administrative reform in Laos. Particular attention was given to Belarus’ technological capabilities in producing potash fertilizers and baby food based on powdered milk,” the press service stressed.

In response, Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized that Belarus is ready not only to supply products, but also to transfer production technologies directly to Laos. The Belarusian side is prepared to provide financing for joint projects in these areas.
Another important area of cooperation highlighted by the foreign affairs minister was the training of Laotian specialists at Belarusian educational institutions in disciplines relevant to joint initiatives.

During the visit, Maksim Ryzhenkov also met with the leadership and members of the Belarus-Laos friendship society. He highlighted the organization’s important role as a bridge between the two countries, and emphasized the significance of people-to-people diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.
