OSTROVETS, 1 October (BelTA) - Belarus has taken into account all the IAEA recommendations as it built the nuclear power plant and is open to further cooperation, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said as he met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, BelTA has learned.
"At all stages of the construction of the nuclear power plant, the IAEA provided Belarus with technical and expert support. Our country took into account all the recommendations from the Agency's assessment missions and followed them while implementing national action plans. Belarus continues cooperating with the IAEA after the Belarusian NPP was launched. Belarus has started preparing to host the next mission on operational safety. New projects of the technical assistance program are in the works," Viktor Karankevich said.
Belarus is eager to develop cooperation with the IAEA, including in new areas, such as radioactive waste management. "As you probably know, Belarus is mulling over an important project to build a radioactive waste disposal facility. We would be grateful to you for all possible assistance in the construction of this facility. In general, we are interested in using the entire tool of the IAEA's capabilities to study the best international experience. We are open to discuss all issues of cooperation with the IAEA and ready to hear your opinion," the deputy prime minister said.
