MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The government is not going to reduce requirements for investment projects to be implemented in the regions. Belarusian Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov made the statement during a business trip to Baranovichi, Brest Oblast, the ministry's press service told BelTA.
Aleksandr Chervyakov took part in a session dedicated to compiling a list of breakthrough investment projects in Brest Oblast. Top officials of the city administrations of Brest, Baranovichi, and Pinsk presented their proposals concerning the concept of the government policy on regional development. Similar sessions had been held previously in Vitebsk Oblast and Mogilev Oblast online.
Aleksandr Chervyakov said: “The government's requirements for the investment projects we intend to realize in every district are not going to be reduced in current conditions. Those should be business ideas, which will have a substantial effect on the development of territories. Parameters of their effectiveness have been determined – to create jobs with the level of salaries at least on par with the industry's average. Initiatives aimed at import substitution and the use of locally available raw materials will be prioritized. We will select at least three main projects and three promising ones for every district or city.”
Proposals were heard out from cities with the population upwards of 80,000 people – Brest, Baranovichi, and Pinsk. “These regions boast a high manufacturing potential. Respectively the suggested projects have to take it into account and develop these capabilities. It is necessary to build on this postulate and keep up selection criteria. Only such proposals will be upheld by the Economy Ministry and included into the regional development concept,” the economy minister stressed.
In his opinion, investment work should not be approached formalistically. “It is a real reserve for enhancing the economic growth of regions and for raising their competitive ability. By tapping into it effectively, we will create a reliable base for fulfilling a strategic task on the national scale – to enable comfortable living standards in every part of the country,” Aleksandr Chervyakov pointed out.
