Hi-Tech Park director: Belarus’ crypto sector needs a reboot

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gives the green light to progress and technology, while insisting on protection of interests of every citizen, BelTA learned from Belarus High-Tech Park Director Vsevolod Yanchevsky following a meeting with the head of state on developing the digital token sector.

Vsevolod Yanchevsky recalled that the country passed what was in many ways a revolutionary Digital Economy Development Ordinance in 2017, which also addressed cryptocurrency. This made Belarus the world’s first country to regulate the industry at the legislative level as much as it was possible at that time. “We were indeed pioneers. Of course, a lot of things have changed in the world since then. Things have been changing, are changing, and will keep changing. And the rate of this change is constantly accelerating. The time has come for a reboot and today the head of state has very clearly and fairly outlined several priorities,” he said.

The main priority is to protect interests of every citizen. “So that no scammer, no shady entity could pick a Belarusian’s pocket, rob them or deceive them,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky noted. It is also important for the industry in general, shaping the image of the High-Tech Park and the country for foreign investors.

At the same time, the green light is given to progress, technology, and innovation. “Everything that facilitates the country’s advancement should be done. And the head of state is eager to support it. The president has always pursued exactly this kind of policy,” the High-Tech Park director said.

Third, when introducing innovations, it is necessary to rely on the world’s experience on the one hand but at the same time try to get ahead of it so that Belarus and its legislation would be an example for other countries as before.

Vsevolod Yanchevsky also foresees a reboot for the High-Tech Park itself. “I am sure we will witness it. The High-Tech Park will also be rebooted. Its history had several stages, and I think the next one is coming very soon. With the head of state’s vision as inspiration, the Park is set for very robust and interesting development,” he stated.
