GOMEL, 18 September (BelTA) – The 19th Gomel Economic Forum has identified the key development priorities for Gomel Oblast and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast: mechanical engineering, machine tool engineering, chemical industry, and agriculture, BelTA has learned.
In June, the Gomel Oblast delegation, led by Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko, paid a visit to Nizhny Novgorod, where it took part in the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Today, the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast delegation has arrived in Gomel on a return visit.
Deputy Chairman of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Government Dmitry Starostin noted the long-standing and multifaceted cooperation. “Belarus is one of the key foreign economic partners and ranks third after China and India among 131 countries,” he said.
The speaker noted that they have already held a series of meetings with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, and have also conducted talks with food, processing, and mechanical engineering companies. “We hope this will lay the groundwork for new projects and bolster our shared economic potential,” he added.
Dmitry Starostin recalled that the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia resulted in signing of more than 200 agreements, including 100 contracts worth about 20 billion Russian rubles. According to him, 43 contractual documents have been concluded between the Nizhny Novgorod region and Belarusian regions, and the number of sister cities has reached 27. “Our cooperation is an example of successful, trusting, fraternal, and friendly interaction. And we are interested in its continuation,” he assured. Among the priority areas are mechanical engineering, machine tool engineering, chemical industry, and agriculture.
The 19th Gomel Economic Forum on 18-19 September has brought together about 500 participants from different countries in the city on the Sozh River. Over the years, the forum has become a recognized and respected platform to discuss key issues of international trade, economic and investment cooperation, and to establish reliable long-term interregional and collaborative ties.
