Flax planting started in Belarus

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) – Flax planting has started in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Spring crops were sown on 132,300 hectares, which is 5.73% of the plan. Early spring grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) were planted on an area of 119,300 hectares, which is 19.1% of the plan. The regional breakdown is the following: crops were sown on the area of 47,600 hectares in Brest Oblast, 2,950 hectares in Vitebsk Oblast, 14,400 hectares in Gomel Oblast, 31,200 hectares in Grodno Oblast, 17,700 hectares in Minsk Oblast, and 5,490 hectares in Mogilev Oblast. 

Annual grasses were planted on 12,900 hectares, which is 7.25% of the plan. Belarus also embarked on planting flax. This crop was sown on the area of 370 hectares, which is 0.75% of the plan. 

Some 276,200 hectares of land was prepared for sowing early spring crops, which is 44.3% of the target. Fertilizing is also underway: winter grains were fertilized on an area of 1.29 million hectares (84.9% of the plan), cruciferous crops for grain on an area of 342,500 hectares (79.7% of the plan), perennial grasses on arable land on an area of 159,500 hectares (17.3% of the plan), and improved grasslands on an area of 182,100 hectares (14.5% of the plan).
