Finance minister comments on Belarus' 2024 budget, plans for 2025

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarus' 2024 budget execution was balanced, Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov told reporters ahead of the ministry's board meeting, BelTA has learned.

“Last year ended quite well. You know, we had projected a budget deficit. Yet, by and large, we did not have a deficit. The budget execution was balanced, and this is exactly what the head of state and the government want of us. The economy fared as planned. This pertains to revenues, profit, export duties on goods - everything was received in the amount planned, even with a certain surplus. Thanks to this, our budget was balanced,” Yuri Seliverstov said.

According to him, there was no budget deficit in the first two months of 2025 either. “We cannot say that some huge revenues are flowing in into the budget. We simply do the balancing based on our tasks and priorities in order to bankroll what we need. In the first half of the year, the focus is on the agro-industrial complex. We need to get ready for sowing in advance. Therefore, of course, now we prioritize the needs of the agro-industrial complex, like fertilizers, fuel. We are trying to make sure that all payments are made evenly. No one is left out without resources,” the minister noted.
