EEC head: Eurasian Economic Union is well-positioned to withstand unprecedented external pressure

MOSCOW, 18 March (BelTA) - The Eurasian Economic Union is well-positioned to withstand unprecedented external pressure, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the CIS International Economic Forum in Moscow on 18 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

"The Eurasian Economic Union is well-positioned to confront unprecedented challenges artificially created by Western countries," Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

He said that the EEC, in close cooperation with the ministries of economy, finance and national banks of the EAEU member states, has developed measures to increase the stability of the economies of the EAEU member states. "Yesterday, this document was approved by the EEC Council. It will become a specific plan of action to solve urgent problems and work in the future," he said. "The document is open, it can be supplemented taking into account the developing situation."

The EEC Council also adopted the first package of measures to increase the resilience of the economies of the Eurasian Economic Union member states. The high-level working group has already drafted the second package of measures, which will be further worked out.

Touching upon the themes of sustainable development and green economy, Mikhail Myasnikovich recalled: in October 2021, the heads of the EAEU member countries adopted a joint statement on economic cooperation on the climate agenda. The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council has instructed the Eurasian Economic Commission to set up a high-level group to align the positions of the member states in this area. “The parties are working on a concept of green economy principles in the EAEU and a roadmap for the EAEU climate agenda. The work is open to any ideas and proposals. It is desirable that they are applicable and help improve our work on the implementation of international obligations and the functioning of the economies of the EAEU states in the emerging external environment,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed the need for technological modernization of the manufacturing facilities in the processing industry. In his words, a list of instruments for target financing of promising Eurasian projects has already been worked out.

Mikhail Myasnikovich emphasized the importance of the project “Eurasian network of industrial cooperation, subcontracting and technology transfer” to build new production and logistics chains between the countries on the basis of digital technologies. “The EEC expects that national governments and their authorized bodies, national operators and enterprises will be more active. I expect to see interest on their part. The goal is to involve at least 6,000 enterprises in the project in 2022. The Eurasian network may become a solid foundation for industrial cooperation not only within the EAEU but also in the CIS,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
