Czech Fermat eager to build machine-tool plant in Belarus


MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – The Czech company Fermat is planning to construct a machine-tool plant in Belarus, BelTA learned from spokesman for the State Science and Technology Committee (SSTC) Yuri Lukashevich.

The project to build a machine-tool plant in Belarus was discussed at the meeting of SSTC Chairman Igor Voitov and Fermat Director Jiri Ferenc. The total area of the plant will make up about 4,000 square meters. The number of employees will be 150 to 200. The annual turnover of the new company will reach ?20-22 million. The plant is expected to export about 70% of products.

“Belarus has approved a large-scale program to upgrade the industrial complex. New facilities and companies are being established. This is why we are interested in setting up an industrial company in your country to manufacture high-precision import-substituting horizontal boring mills in Belarus, reduce prices and boost the export of goods,” Jiri Ferenc remarked. In his words, at present the Customs Union market is one of the most promising markets to promote the export of metal-working equipment.

SSTC Chairman Igor Voitov, in turn, said that today national sci-tech programs in machine-building are used to master brand-new technologies to produce machines for the local and foreign markets. “The establishment of a joint venture in Belarus is a rather interesting idea, especially taking into account the potential to export goods to Russia and Kazakhstan, to the markets of other countries, with which we maintain active cooperation and develop relations,” Igor Voitov emphasized.

The meeting also touched upon the possibility to cooperate with large machine-building and mining enterprises of Belarus and Russia, personnel and scientific capacities. According to Viktor Butko, Director General of OAO MZOR – managing company of Belstankoinstrument Holding Company, Belarus has qualified specialists because technical education is very strong in the country. “The existing design and engineering potential helps the holding company resolve comprehensive tasks,” Viktor Butko said.

Members of the Czech delegation will pay visits to the Industry Ministry, BelAZ, MZOR and other companies.
