China starts selling polymer packaging at Belarus’ commodity exchange

MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – The first deal for the purchase of polymer products from the People's Republic of China has been concluded on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

The transaction involved 50,000 polymer ziplock bags intended for packaging dry dairy products. The seller was a wholesale trading company from Sichuan Province, while the buyer was a major dairy-processing enterprise in Grodno Oblast. Until now, PRC-based companies have not supplied polymers or polymer products through BUCE, and the supplier pool for these goods has been limited to Belarusian and Russian producers.

BUCE believes that the entrance of Chinese sellers of polymer packaging into the exchange platform will have a positive impact on the level of competition in this segment of the market, and, given the significant need of Belarusian companies in the real sector for packaging materials, it may become a new driver for the growth of trade between Belarus and China.

"Exchange transactions for polymers and polymer products totaled almost Br236 million in January-November 2025, up 41% year on year. Polymer film, plastic containers and lids, collagen casing, and polyethylene bags accounted for the largest share of sales. In total, 250 buyers and 165 sellers regularly participated in the auctions, including eight companies from the Russian Federation. The entry of a Chinese supplier into this market will expand procurement options for Belarusian food industry enterprises and enable them to source packaging materials on more competitive terms. It will also broaden the range of goods traded between Belarus and China, supporting further growth in bilateral trade," the press service said.

In January-November 2025, the volume of transactions by Chinese participants in exchange trading increased by 8%, amounting to $136 million. Of this amount, more than 70% was provided by exports of Belarusian sawn timber.
