GOMEL, 27 August (BelTA) – Belorusneft is developing a digital system for geological exploration, BelTA learned from the company.

This involves the creation of a convenient virtual tool for the company's geologists to ensure efficient management of business processes and rapid data analysis. The innovative product is being developed by the digitalization management team. The foundation of the Digital Geological Exploration information and analytical system has already been laid. The process is overseen by Senior Business Analyst Maksim Kovalenko. According to him, “digital” steps in any branch of knowledge, science, or production are unstoppable.

The core of Digital Geological Exploration is a unified data repository that consolidates various documents and reports related to geological exploration. “It is important that this array is supported by a file indexing mechanism with full-text search and a user-friendly interface. The repository, like the entire system, will operate on a one-stop-shop principle. This implies the fastest possible access to the necessary information for all participants in geological exploration work. Analytics of projects completed in previous periods will also be available here,” Maksim Kovalenko explained. A universal API for data exchange has been prepared to significantly simplify integration with any external and internal systems.

In essence, this digital platform will make the invisible visible. “The modernized module provides a complete picture of the contours of various geological objects (deposits, mining, and geological allotments), conducted 3D seismic surveys, and the network of 2D profiles. All this comes with the necessary textual information, as well as the ability to load structural maps as base layers - important attributes of geological exploration that capture the structure and bedding of rocks, tectonic faults, and promising structures for drilling new wells. The required functionality is ready,” the company said.

Next in line is the development of a “digital core repository”. The collection of requirements and development of this subsystem module for the software suite will begin in September. It is planned that this section will include not only descriptive data about the core material stored at BelNIPIneft but will also provide the results of field and laboratory studies of rocks and fluids.

Looking ahead, the idea of designing a Digital Laboratory is also under consideration. It would allow for the management of the instrument and equipment fleet at the BelNIPIneft Core Processing, Research, and Storage Center and provide access to necessary standards and regulations.

According to Viktor Privalov, Head of the Geology and Field Development Department at the central office of Belorusneft, the information and analytical system will erase boundaries between everyone involved in geological exploration. “Instant access to the most up-to-date production information will help various experts and services communicate faster and save a great deal of time. Most importantly, it is the predictive function of the software suite that will allow us to approach exploration drilling more rationally and better assess the prospects of future projects. The digitalization of geological exploration is a step demanded by the times,” he emphasized, noting that the production fund and oilfield service operations are already digital.

Belorusneft, established in 1966, is engaged in the exploration, development, and extraction of oil fields, well drilling, and the production of oil and associated petroleum gas in Belarus. The company also operates in the oil sectors of other countries.
