Belarusian Railways transports 1m containers since 1 January 2024

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) - Belarusian Railways has transported 1 million containers in TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) since the start of 2024, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Railways press center.

Export-import transportation accounts for more than 60% of the total transportation. The millionth container will deliver dairy products to China. “For comparison, the Belarusian Railways transported the millionth container in TEU in December last year. This year’s volumes reflect sustainable economic development and stable operation of Belarusian enterprises,” the press center said.

The growth of container transportation in all the directions became possible thanks to the work carried out jointly with cargo owners, ministries and departments to build new transport and logistics solutions and reorient cargo flows amid the transformation and change of markets.

Belarusian Railways and the country's freighters take measures to develop sustainable trade relations for the supply of goods to Russia, Asian countries, China and other countries both by land routes and by using port infrastructure. Transportation is developed within the North-South international transport corridor, which is a key element of the Eurasian transport framework connecting with the majority of transport corridors used for international cargo transportation in Eurasian traffic, providing the shortest distances for cargo transportation between the EAEU countries and South Asia, East Africa and the Middle East.

To promote Belarusian products in foreign markets, Belarusian Railways provides services to deliver export cargoes of domestic enterprises to Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, India, Iran, and the faraway countries.
