Belarusian Railways to discuss Baltic transit during sanctions period in Kaliningrad

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – A delegation of Belarusian Railways will take part in the 7th International Baltic Transport Forum that will take place in Kaliningrad on 10-11 September, the press service of the Belarusian railroad operator told BelTA.

Among other things participants of the forum will discuss matters concerning Baltic transit during the period of economic sanctions and their impact on freight transportation by rail. Export and import transportation in view of the ruble devaluation will also be discussed as well as the investment appeal of the Baltic transport and logistics market, prospects of developing ferry transportation in Kaliningrad.

According to the source, Belarusian Railways represents a major link that enables economic ties between Kaliningrad Oblast and other regions of Russia. This is why the Belarusian delegation will present the transport and logistics potential of Belarusian Railways in the area of cargo transportation in the direction of Kaliningrad Oblast. Plans have been made to arrange meetings and negotiations to increase cargo transportation between Belarus and Kaliningrad, including the export of Belarusian construction cargoes to Kaliningrad Oblast taking into account lower tariffs of Lithuanian Railways.

Apart from that, the delegation of Belarusian Railways intends to discuss organizational matters concerning preparations for and the actual roundtable session that will gather representatives of port administrations, major cargo receivers and cargo shippers in Kaliningrad in early November.

Belarusian Railways believes that participation in the forum and the roundtable session will contribute to higher transit transportation between Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast. It will also help increase the transportation of construction cargoes of Belarusian exporters.
