Belarusian PM outlines drivers of Belarus’ economic growth in 2024

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) - Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko outlined the drivers of Belarus’ economic growth in 2024 as he took stock of the 2024 results, BelTA learned.

In 2024, almost all sectors posted growth, Roman Golovchenko noted. “The main driver was the manufacturing sector, which expanded by almost 5.5%. Growth was also registered in trade, both retail and wholesale. Wholesale trade was successful across the main financially intensive commodity positions, such as mineral fertilizers, petroleum products, food, and retail. This shows that everything in the economy is interconnected. The growth of retail, despite rather strict price regulation, came on the heels of a combination of several factors. These include the growth of people’s incomes, the measures to support the purchase of goods of domestic producers - the Native Goods program, which, incidentally, has been extended for this year. We think that it will make an important contribution to retail this year too,” he said.

According to the prime minister, the information and communication sector has also recovered to its previous high level. “The recovery was mainly due to the increased activity of residents of the High Technology Park,” Roman Golovchenko explained.

The country's economic growth was also supported by a  high demand for Belarusian products. “First of all, these are engineering goods. A record number of trucks came off the assembly line, more than 90,000 cars and over 1,500 buses were produced. Belarus posted a record output of cellulose, cement, crude oil this year,” the head of government said.
