MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) - Belarus ranks first in Russian Leningrad Oblast’s trade with CIS partners, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Leningrad Oblast Oleg Malashchenko said as he met with Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko on 12 March, BelTA has learned.
External restrictions, which have been imposed against Belarus and Russia, give our countries an opportunity to move forward, said Oleg Malashchenko. “Each trip to the neighboring country brings about new connections, new solutions. Today we are proud to say that we have fulfilled the task set by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Governor of Leningrad Oblast Aleksandr Drozdenko - to hit $1 billion in mutual trade. This task has been accomplished,” he said.
Belarus ranks first among the CIS countries in terms of Leningrad Oblast’s trade, the deputy chairman emphasized. Nevertheless, there is still room to expand. “We are closely cooperating with Belarus in almost all sectors. We are also moving forward in agriculture, building dairy complexes, but, of course, we are not as fast as Belarus,” he said. “Today we have to deal with the issue of their maintenance.”
Leningrad Oblast is interested in the exchange of experience in this, Oleg Malashchenko added. Both Belarus and Russia’s Leningrad Oblast are actively working on the production of dairy products.
While in Belarus, the delegation of Leningrad Oblast visited several enterprises to get familiar with Belarusian technologies.
