Belarus-Syria intergovernmental commission to sit in early 2019

MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – A regular session of the Belarus-Syria intergovernmental commission will take place in early 2019, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Belarus Bassam Abdul Majid told reporters on 4 December, BelTA has learned.

“The intergovernmental commission is to convene at the start of next year. We hope that it will result in agreements to expand cooperation in various fields,” Bassam Abdul Majid said.

The diplomat welcomed a high level of relations between the two countries. “Belarus supported our country during the crisis. Over 500 Syrian children have spent vacations in your country and we really appreciate it. This initiative will have a continuation. However, assistance is not limited to children's recuperation. Belarus has delivered humanitarian aid to Syria several times, which confirms strong friendly ties between the countries and attests to solid support on the part of Belarus,” the diplomat noted.

Bassam Abdul Majid is taking part in a Belarus-Syria business meeting. The business talks are attended by 13 Syrian companies from Tartous Province and about 50 Belarusian companies from different regions of the country. The parties are discussing cooperation and opportunities to implement joint projects in pharmaceutics, production of building materials, agricultural mechanical engineering, chemistry, food industry, IT, woodworking and metallurgy.
