MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) - The industrial and agricultural sectors managed to reach the pre-war level 5 to 15 years after the end of the Great Patriotic War, BelTA learned from the National Statistical Committee of Belarus.

Over 10,000 industrial enterprises were destroyed during the war in the BSSR; more than 90% of machine tools and technological equipment were destroyed or taken away. The year the BSSR reached the pre-war level was 1950. Today there are over 16,000 industrial enterprises in Belarus. More than half of the engineering output is exported.

In 1945 the agricultural production was half of what it was in the pre-war period. But by 1960 the pre-war level was surpassed by a quarter.

Nowadays Belarus is fully self-sufficient in agricultural products. The level of self-sufficiency in milk is 283%, meat - 135%, eggs - 123%, potatoes - 111%, vegetables and melons - 103%. Agricultural products and foodstuffs occupy the fifth part in the total exports.
