Belarus, Russia’s Kaluga Oblast strengthen ties through joint projects

MOSCOW, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov is paying a working visit to Kaluga Oblast of Russia. One of the key items on the agenda is talks with Kaluga Oblast Governor Vladislav Shapsha, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting, the ambassador noted that one of the key cooperation projects between Belarus and Kaluga is the production of utility road maintenance vehicles based on MAZ chassis at the Kaluga-based company Merkator. He suggested that during the planned visit of the Kaluga Oblast delegation to Belarus in the summer, they could tour several enterprises, including agricultural ones, to explore potential future cooperation projects.

“Our heads of state and government leaders are encouraging us to promote the production of critical goods through import substitution and cooperative efforts. This is important for people, industry, and development,” Ambassador Yuri Seliverstov emphasized.
The diplomat also highlighted successful cooperation in the construction sector. “Given that Belarus is located close to Kaluga Oblast, it is natural for our builders to work together, creating interesting, beautiful, and, most importantly, necessary facilities,” he noted.

Ambassador Yuri Seliverstov stressed the importance of developing tourism ties between Belarus and Kaluga Oblast, as increasing the sector’s contribution to GDP is an important task for the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “I believe that our meeting will help further expand cooperation in a spirit of friendship and partnership,” the ambassador concluded.

In addition to talks with the governor, the program of the working visit includes tours to several industrial enterprises implementing cooperation projects with Belarus, as well as to a residential neighborhood and a school being built by Belarusian construction companies.
