BREST, 16 June (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Union State budget is growing every year, Chairman of the Budget, Taxes and Financial Market Commission of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly Viktor Seliverstov said during the 68th session of the Parliamentary Assembly that was held in Brest on 16 June, BelTA has learned.
“Our surplus is shrinking every year due to the emergence of new programs, projects and activities. In 2025, the number of programs, projects and activities has increased: we have eight programs, two projects and 41 events. It is important that the budget spending is very diverse. In other words, we have absolutely practical things to spend on, like space exploration, development of new medicines and biological preparations, as well as infrastructure projects.”

In particular, the Union State has launched a new project this year. In April, the Union State international forum Great Heritage - Common Future debuted in Volgograd. A proposal was put forward to make it regular and hold it alternately in Russia and Belarus. In 2026, the forum will be held in Belarus and will be centered around the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

Various programs, projects and activities are financed from the Union State budget. Among them are the international festival of arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, programs in defense, space, and science. “There are a number of specific proposals on programs and projects for 2026. It is important to underscore that the Union State budget is growing every year. For 2025, it was increased by 19%,” he said.

Viktor Seliverstov emphasized that over the past 25 years, more than 90 programs and projects have been implemented in various industries by the Union State, which have yielded tangible results.
In addition to that, the Parliamentary Assembly adopted a statement on protecting historical truth and preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War.
