MOSCOW, 9 April (BelTA) – Belarus plans to establish assembly production of its machinery in Colombia, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov told the media on the sidelines of the 4th Belarus-Latin America Forum held in Moscow on 9 April, BelTA has learned.
Yevgeny Shestakov recalled that Belarus opened its embassy in Colombia about six years ago. "We are always very deliberate when deciding to open our diplomatic missions, as they must be effective and deliver tangible economic and political benefits to the state and our citizens," he said. The opening of the Belarusian embassy in Colombia demonstrates Belarus' commitment to developing trade and economic cooperation.
"We have a high regard for your country and recognize Colombia's role as a regional leader and one of South America's major economies. We believe that there are many opportunities for our cooperation, including in mechanical engineering. Currently, we are discussing the assembly production of Belarusian complex technical machinery in Colombia. I am confident these plans will be successful," Yevgeny Shestakov said.
"We also maintain a constructive political dialogue. There are no issues in our relations. Our diplomatic mission in Colombia is functioning very successfully, maintaining the highest level of contacts. We hope to achieve significant success through our joint efforts in the near future," the deputy minister added.
As it was previously reported, Belarus and Colombia have concluded an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual abolition of visas for short-term trips. The agreement will come into force in 30 days.
