Belarus is 95% self-sufficient in all foods

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Belarus is 95% sufficient in all food products, Deputy Head of the Directorate of the Processing Industry at the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry Maria Klimova said at a business conference in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

"Our agricultural industry has proved its worth during the pandemic time. We relied only on our own strength and we provided ourselves with all foods and even shared with other countries. The investments in the Belarusian agricultural sector definitely paid off. We are proud to say that we have achieved successes. Today the level of food security in the country reaches 95%. We do not make the products that we cannot produce due to geographical conditions. Indeed, we do not have a sea and palm trees but we produce the main socially significant goods in quantities much higher than we consume," Maria Klimova said.

Thus, Belarus produces 139kg of meat per person while the consumption is 98kg per capita. The manufacture of dairy products is almost four times higher than their consumption: 908kg per person against 238kg per capita consumption. The surplus is exported without any damage to the domestic market.

The business conference "Industrial Complex of the Republic of Belarus in the Year of Quality" was held for the first time. The goal was to present the experience and best practices of domestic industrial enterprises in improving the quality of products, intensifying innovative activities and producing high-tech goods. The conference is expected to promote the exchange of experience and best practices between enterprises and new contacts, the search for partners. The conference was organized by the Minsk City Technopark and the organizing committee of the national competition "Industry Leaders of the Republic of Belarus 2024".
