Belarus in talks with China on power grid reconstruction

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Cooperation on electrical grid reconstruction is in focus on the negotiations of Belarus with a Chinese company, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz told the media on the sidelines of the Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum, BelTA has learned.

“The construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant has created prerequisites for increased consumption of electrical energy. For this, we need to develop the grid infrastructure. We consistently emphasize the need to increase the scale of reconstruction of electrical networks to enable as many consumers as possible, whether individuals or legal entities, to access greater volumes of electricity. Over five years, we have more than doubled the scale of reconstruction,” Denis Moroz said.

Belarus will continue to increase the scale of power grid reconstruction. “It is quite obvious that we need a strategic partner to achieve this goal. We are currently seeking such partners. One option is a company from China that possesses very high expertise in the production of high-voltage equipment. Negotiations on this are currently underway. The matter is about pin-point reconstruction, aimed primarily at meeting the economy's needs for increased electricity consumption,” the minister noted.
