Belarus, Hungary sign roadmap for nuclear energy cooperation for 2025-2027




MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Hungary have signed a roadmap of cooperation in the nuclear power industry for 2025-2027, Olga Kozlovich, head of international cooperation, training and information support at the Nuclear Power Department at the Energy Ministry of Belarus.

The document was signed by the Nuclear Power Department at the Energy Ministry, the Belarusian NPP and the Paks II NPP as part of the memorandum of understanding on deepening partnership in the field of nuclear power between Belarus’ Energy Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary. 

The roadmap includes measures to exchange experience in nuclear power infrastructure development, nuclear and radiation safety, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, and scientific and technical support for NPP operation.

Belarus has successfully implemented the nuclear power plant project and today shares its experience with partner countries, including Hungary that is building a new NPP according to the Russian VVER project generation III+," Olga Kozlovich said. “Belarusian and Hungarian nuclear workers are developing partnerships, sharing best practices. We also have an expert group on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. The roadmap defines the priority areas of this work and will contribute to mutual development of competencies in the nuclear industry. 

The working group met in Budapest to discuss scientific and technical support of NPPs. The Belarusian delegation was set to study the Hungarian experience in forming a system of scientific and technical support for NPPs, to examine the main areas of scientific activities of the Energy Research Center in Budapest and the work of the research reactor, and tour a number of laboratories.

On 22 May the working group met with Ambassador of Belarus to Hungary Vladimir Ulakhovich to discuss the topical issues of cooperation. The parties welcomed the positive dynamics of bilateral contacts.
