Belarus’ grain harvest exceeds 9.2m tonnes

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) - Some 9.2 million tonnes of grain has been threshed in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 3 October, some 9,239,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus,” the press service informed.

The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast - 2.292 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.791 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.765 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.283 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.091 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.017 million tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 87% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, together with maize, which makes up 2,025,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 5.2 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

Some 681,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 97% of the target.

Winter grains for grain have been sown across 1,261,000 hectares, 84% of the plan.

Flax has been pulled from over 143,000 hectares, with average yields being 11.6 centners per hectare higher than last year.

Maize for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 51% of the area, which is 515,000 hectares.

Some 551,000 tonnes of hay (76% of the plan) and 13.652 million tonnes of haylage (98% of the plan) have been prepared so far. Forage production has reached 7.246 million tonnes (72% of the target).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 41% of the area, which amounts to 44,000 hectares. The harvest has yielded 2,129,000 tonnes of sugar beet.

Some 477,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested, with the average yield making up 3.8 centners per hectare above last year. A total of 68% of areas with potatoes have been cleared.

Nationwide, 89,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 55% of it cropped now.
