
MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) - Belarus has harvested 19% of areas planted to grain crops (maize, buckwheat and millet not taken into account), which makes up 378,000 hectares, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
“As of 28 July, preliminary data shows that 1.612 million tonnes of grain have been threshed. The average yield is 8.8 centners per hectare higher than last year,” the ministry said.
The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast harvested 453,000 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast 69,000 tonnes, Gomel Oblast 185,000 tonnes, Grodno Oblast 402,000 tonnes, Minsk Oblast 372,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast 131,000 tonnes.
Winter barley has been harvested from 93% of the sown area, yielding 903,000 tonnes at an average of 39.8 centners per hectare, 7.5 centners per hectare more than the previous year. Winter rapeseed for grain has been harvested from 135,000 hectares (36% of the total area), producing 284,500 tonnes.
Flax has been pulled from 15,000 hectares, accounting for 31% of the planned area.
Second-cut grasses have been mowed on 760,000 hectares, reaching 71% of the target. Over 273,000 tonnes of hay (38% of the plan) and 10.657 million tonnes of haylage (76% of the plan) have been prepared so far, including 289,000 tonnes stored in polymer packaging.
