MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko met with Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce Ahmed El Wakil in Cairo on 26 May. During the talks the parties discussed the possibilities of trade and economic partnership between Belarus and Egypt, the investment opportunities in Belarus and its doing business potential, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Igor Sergeyenko recalled that the presidents of Belarus and Egypt met in Cairo in February 2020 and the focus then was on trade and economic ties. In April 2024, during the official visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Belarus to Egypt, the parties signed an intergovernmental agreement on mutual trade facilitation system. Earlier this year, it was promptly ratified by Belarusian Parliament.

"The trade facilitation system provides a number of advantages for participants in foreign economic activities of the countries that have concluded such an agreement. For example, these include priority procedure for customs operations, simplification of customs formalities, non-application of customs inspections at checkpoints, except for goods presenting high risks. I recalled these to emphasize that parliamentarians keep pace with the time. We are here today precisely to give a new impetus to the Belarusian-Egyptian cooperation in various areas," the Speaker of the House of Representatives said.
The Speaker emphasized that the visit is expected to result in a number of mutually beneficial agreements. "This was preceded by active work of the parties. We highly appreciate it. Our cooperation has room to grow. There are more than 1,100 commodity items in the commodity structure of Belarusian exports alone. This is why we pin great hopes on the activities of the chambers of commerce of Belarus and Egypt," he emphasized.
Speaking about the development of trade and economic ties, Igor Sergeyenko informed Ahmed El Wakil that last year Belarus adopted the law on investments. It is about creating favorable conditions for investment and improvement of the business environment.
Igor Sergeyenko also invited the Egyptian businessmen to take part in international exhibitions in Belarus: the International Forum on Artificial Intelligence (June 13-14) and BelAGRO (June 3-7).
The Speaker emphasized that today Belarus is not only about the well-known brands such as MTZ, MAZ or Amkodor. There are strong companies in the country, which are leaders in their respective niches in the global market. For example these are Regula, Izovac, Solar Laser Systems and others.
Speaking about food security, the chairman of the House of Representatives noted that Belarusian agricultural exports exceeded $8 billion last year, with shipments made to more than 107 countries in recent years. Belarus manufactures about 1,800 dairy products, including about 500 types of cheese.
"Belarus is fully self-sufficient in feed and feed additives and exports more than 85% of the output certified according to international standards," Igor Sergeyenko noted.
The opportunities of the trade and economic partnership between Belarus and Egypt are large and not yet fully utilized, Igor Sergeyenko said. "I am convinced that if we pool together our potentials in the process of further development of the Belarusian-Egyptian relations, the results will not be long in coming. We have the main thing for this - the political will and mutual desire to develop relations," he added.
