Belarus eager to share NPP construction expertise with Hungary

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Belarus is eager to share its experience and expertise in the construction of nuclear power plants with Hungary, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said during a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, BelTA has learned.

According to the deputy prime minister, the key prerequisites for advancing Belarus-Hungary relations are a commitment to open dialogue, mutual trust, and actions aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizens of both countries.  “Despite external constraints, our relations are developing. There are good examples in agriculture, industry, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and the energy sector. Last year, we discussed promising plans for development in the energy sector and signed a corresponding document. Despite the short period of time, significant work has been done. Working group and expert meetings have been held, and it has been determined how to proceed with the practical implementation of the agreements that were outlined both in the agreement and during our meetings,” Viktor Karankevich said.

Belarus has undergone the journey of constructing its own nuclear power plant. “We know all the stages and complexities. It is indeed a large-scale project. We are ready to share this experience and expertise so that the construction of the power plant in Hungary can also be carried out efficiently and all issues can be resolved promptly. We are eager to organize this work in cooperation with our strategic partner – Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation,” the deputy prime minister noted.

He also pointed out that Belarus is keen to expand contacts with Hungary and implement new joint projects. “We welcome the holding of another meeting of the Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Minsk, which should stimulate and intensify the work of economic entities and identify new areas of interaction. The holding of the intergovernmental commission and the involvement of business circles once again confirms the interest in boosting cooperation between our countries. I am sure your visit will provide an additional impetus for strengthening economic cooperation between our countries,” Viktor Karankevich emphasized.
