Ambassador: China, Belarus need to create new growth points in trade, interregional cooperation

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - China and Belarus need to create new growth points in trade, economic, and interregional cooperation by leveraging their advantages and mutual experience, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said as he delivered a thematic lecture on the cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR), BelTA learned.

"To promote common prosperity, we will continue aligning the Belt and Road Initiative and Belarus’ national strategy for sustainable social and economic development with the development strategies of other countries. During the Years of Cooperation between Belarus and China in Science, Technology and Innovation, we must fully realize the potential of Belarus’ Coordination Center of the China SCO Technology Transfer Center," the diplomat emphasized.
"We should capitalize on the advantages and experience of successful trade, economic, and interregional cooperation between China and Belarus, create new growth points within such platforms as the SCO Demonstration Base for Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training and the Demonstration Zone for China-SCO regional trade and economic cooperation," the ambassador noted.

This year the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research launched a series of thematic lectures by the ambassadors of the SCO member states accredited in Belarus under the auspices of the SCO and BRICS Research Center. After our country's accession to the organization in July 2024, the BISR has been granted the status of a national research center of the SCO. Within the framework of this status BISR actively cooperates with the forum of SCO think tanks.
With a view to practical implementation of the plans, the BISR hosted a lecture by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan on 16 April.

BISR Director Oleg Makarov said that it was deeply symbolic that the lecture series was opened by the official representative of China, the current chairmanship of the SCO in 2024-2025.
