Agenda of upcoming CIS summit revealed

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – The agenda of the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting in Dushanbe has been revealed. The summit will take place on 5 June, BelTA has learned.

“Our team has already visited Dushanbe to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Good preparatory work has been carried out. Tajik colleagues have informed us that everything is ready for the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council,” CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev said. “The heads of delegations - heads of government of the CIS countries - are expected to arrive in Dushanbe on 4 June. The heads of government will hold an informal meeting. The official meeting will take place on 5 June.”

According to him, the agenda of the meeting includes a dozen and a half issues related as always to the most diverse fields of activities. “The priority, of course, will be given to economic cooperation,” Sergei Lebedev said. “Two issues that will be coming first on the agenda will focus on cooperation in heavy and light industry. A minister from Tajikistan will speak on both of these topics. The agreements that will be signed there will be aimed at further deepening of cooperation in these areas. I know that the Republic of Belarus is also making a great contribution to cooperation in the light industry. Belarusians have something to be proud of here. Products of the light industry are in great demand in the CIS.”

A number of issues related to the humanitarian sector will be considered, as well. “This  will include the discussion of the Volunteers Forum. You know that the volunteer movement has now gained great popularity in the CIS. In all CIS countries, volunteers play an active role in many events, play a big role in charitable activities. On the initiative of the Republic of Kazakhstan such a Volunteer Forum is being prepared and will be held in the near future,” Sergei Lebedev said.

Minsk is hosting a regular meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council on 20 May. The plenipotentiaries are set to consider issues related to the preparation for and organization of the 31st Minsk International Film Festival Listapad and other significant cultural events in Belarus, the activities of the Physical Education and Sports Council in 2019-2024. The CIS plenipotentiaries are also expected to discuss preparations for the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, which is due to take place in Dushanbe on 5 June.
