KGB: Over 40 channels used to smuggle weapons from Ukraine to Belarus have been stopped

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Over 40 channels used to smuggle weapons and explosives from Ukraine to Belarus have been stopped last year alone and so far this year. Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Ivan Tertel made the statement during the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 25 April, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Tertel said: “The State Security Committee together with colleagues from other defense, security, and law enforcement agencies have recently carried out a number of operations to stop combat drone strikes from Lithuania’s territory against facilities in Minsk and its suburbs. We continue working in this field. We cannot reveal the details to the general public yet.”

Speaking about the situation evolving at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, the KGB chief described it as a hot zone. “The counteraction of constant attempts to smuggle assets for carrying out terrorist attacks and sabotage into Belarus’ territory, attempts to insert subversive groups, agents of Ukrainian security agencies for the sake of carrying out terrorist attacks in Belarus and Russia has become a daily routine for personnel of the border service, law enforcement and state security agencies. In 2023 alone and so far this year over 40 channels used to smuggle weapons, explosives, and other means of destruction have been prevented,” Ivan Tertel stressed.
