Belarus census 2019 to include data on farming

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – The census 2019 in Belarus will include the data on farming activities, Chairwoman of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus Inna Medvedeva told a press conference on 21 August, BelTA has learned.

The census questionnaire will include a section on agricultural activities, the head of the Belarusian National Statistics Committee said.

“There has been no agricultural census in Belarus. It is quite expensive, that is why we have decided to combine the two censuses. One of the questionnaires will include questions on crop growing and cattle breeding. The new data will help the statistics committee assess the contribution of the farm gross output to the country's GDP,” said Inna Medvedeva.

Questions will be simple: the areas sown with crops, livestock, etc. We are working with the commission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on this questionnaire,” Irina Medvedeva said.

“The census data will be used only for the purposes of the Belarusian National Statistic Committee, i.e. to compile statistical indicators. No tax or audit activities will follow in the wake of the census,” she added.
