Belarus president: We will not allow anyone to distort the truth about the victory

MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian nation holds sacred the memory about the World War Two victory and will not allow anyone to distort the truth about the victory. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the ceremony held on 9 May to lay wreaths at the Victory Monument in Minsk on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Soviet nation's victory in the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned.

“On behalf of the grateful people that live in Belarus I address those, who are no longer with us as well as Great Patriotic War veterans and homefront workers. We bow low to your deeds and state with honor that we hold sacred the memory about your victory, about our victory. We have not allowed and will not allow anyone to distort the truth about this victory, to falsify and take it away from our children and grandchildren. We have done and will do everything necessary for them to live in a peaceful and independent country,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state underlined that no monument has been destroyed and no one has been allowed to dishonor the memory about the heroes since Belarus became independent. “We've been fighting for the truth about the war. For the truth about your deeds. We feel no shame before you, who gaze at us from heavens, before the Great Patriotic War veterans, who watch with concern the madmen pushing the planet towards a new world war,” noted the Belarusian leader. “Just like 71 years ago we are confident that life and justice will beat barbarism and death!”

The President pointed out that this victory needs will, bravery, and sacrifice of all the people and nations, who want to live peacefully. All the people and nations should unite in the face of danger, he said.
